Last Thursday night at Indianapolis at the World Championship trials, 16-year old Justin Lynch from California ‘beat’ 16-year old Michael Phelps in the 100-meter butterfly.
Lynch ‘beat’ Michael Phelps’ 2001 record of 52.98 seconds with a time of 52.75 seconds. This is now the 15-16 U.S. National Age Group record in 100-meter butterfly.
Justin Lynch is from Vallejo, California and trains with Terrapins Swim Team in Concord, under coach Paul Stafford. He came to swimming seeing his older sister Katilyn.
Like many young swimming stars, Lynch is frequently asked if he’s the next Michael Phelps. His response? There’s only one Michael Phelps.
Lynch dreams to compete in the Nationals, win it and aim for 2016 Olympics.
